The hotel is in a prime location, I was pleasantly surprised at how close it was to Nishiki Market. The hotel room was cozy and had everything we needed. Having a washer and dryer in the room was amazing. I was grateful to have it, especially during a hot and sweaty summer. Having the bath/shower room convert to a dryer was a game changer. I didn't even know that kind of technology existed. I wish we had something like that in the United States. I also enjoyed having a sink in the room we could use to wash our water bottles. It was also great to have a water dispenser in the lobby so we didn't have to spend money on bottled water. The hotel had so many nice amenities that were convenient and made everything feel a little more like home. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. They explained how to use the washer and dryer, as well as the A/C in the room. I also appreciated that they kept our luggage when we arrived before check-in, as well as holding our bags when we checked-out but wanted to grab lunch before we left Kyoto. When we asked for them to call a taxi for us, one of the staff went out of his way to flag a taxi driving by so we didn't have to pay the reservation fee. That was extremely nice and thoughtful. I can definitely tell the hotel is mindful of travelers' needs.

Stayed here for 7 nights in a Triple room as family. Although the room appears small, the room is so well designed that little ledges here and there creates usable space for your electronic devices etc. We liked the complimentary coffee machine for an early morning start. The location was excellent for walking around the touristy Nishiki Market and Teramachi etc and despite being in the middle of it all - the street was so quiet at night. The location was also good if you like walking to various attractions (Minamiza theatre 10mins, Nijo Castle 20mins) and it is about a 10 min walk to the Shijo Karasuma Station, which you need to get to JR Station, otherwise if are carrying luggage and you can take a taxi for 1600yen. You could also take the bus but we avoided it after hearing concerns of over-tourisms and of locals not being able to use their bus service.

The host family and staff were terrific - kind, informative, helpful and with a sense of humour. We'd come home from a day out with all sorts of questions about things we'd seen and they were happy to share thoughts and explanations. We learned about all sorts of things from language intricacies to local habits and customs. The rooms were a decent size for Japan and the top floor deluxe twin had a great patio for taking in the street below. While the hotel is located on a side street away from a main shopping thoroughfare, we heard nothing at night after 9-10 pm. and we were there four days. We split our time between the more sedate area of Higashiyama and this hotel's more lively Shijo Kawaramachi area. We slept well in both locations. We would stay again. Thank you, GOCO staff!

Central location, very clean, washer, efficient dryer function in bathroom clothes dried within 1-3 hours depending on fabric type)…but it was the owners and staff that really made our stay so special. They were so warm and welcoming. They treated us like their family, daily conversations at the lobby, their recommendations, and daily giving us directions how to go anywhere. They’re located only 2-3 buildings away from Nishiki Market. My 8 year old daughter and I stayed at their smallest room (with 1 double bed). It was small and very smart use of the space. It was very clean and amazing water pressure in the shower. They also provide cold water in the lobby, so we refilled our water bottles and also the pitcher from the room.

Amazing service, great location and well-thought out amenities. We have been to Kyoto many times but thanks to the hotel owner, Konishi-san, we had the best visit ever. He personally helped us plan our itinerary by telling us where best to catch Fall at its peak, all the not-to-be-missed attractions and how to get there. The hotel is very well-located, right next to Nishiki Market, Gion and walking distance to 2 train stations. And wonderful extras - Every room has its own clothes washer with drying fan in bathroom, micro wave and kitchen sink, and 2 seats plus small table. Hotel rooms in Japan are generally small but Hotel GOCO packed a lot into the room and made for a great stay.
